Kimpton is a picturesque village and civil parish in North Hertfordshire, England, lying roughly 25 miles north of London.  It sits about 6 miles south of Hitchin, 7 miles north of St Albans, and close to towns like Harpenden and Luton. 

With a population of around 2,261 (as of the 2021 census), Kimpton encompasses not just the village itself but also the hamlets of Peters Green, Blackmore End and surrounding rural land. 

The village has a rich history, being mentioned in the Domesday Book, and features a parish church, St Peter and St Paul, built in a transitional style between Norman and Early English periods, with some later additions.  Many of its houses along the High Street date from the 19th and early 20th centuries, though there are a few from the 16th century. 

Kimpton is known for its strong community spirit, with many local clubs, annual events like the May Festival, and abundant countryside amenities including footpaths and bridleways for walking and riding.  The village has its own primary and nursery school, a post office/general store, and a few pubs.

Geographically, Kimpton is set along the valley of a dried-up riverbed (historically the River Kym), and is mostly agricultural, with relatively small areas of woodland. One notable event in recent history was the 2001 flood, when exceptionally heavy rain caused the dried riverbed (which under dry conditions is beneath the high street) to flow again, leading to serious damage in the village.
